News - Introduction: 1-20-2010
My name is Mark Nault, and
I live in Edmond, Oklahoma with my beautiful wife and partner Carol and
our Golden Retriever, Dakota. We have one son in the Army who is
assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Besides my family, there is nothing I
love more than traveling the back roads of this land taking
photographs. My photography is truly a labor of love and this website
is my gallery.
My photography is driven by a passion for nature and
my desire to
share this passion with others; especially those who cannot enjoy it in
person. I hope to use this website as a vehicle to help others develop their own
passion for the natural world.
I am self-taught beginning as a teenager in the
mid-1970s. In 1979, I entered the Air Force and served for 23
years at bases in the U.S. and overseas. I was very lucky -
I enjoyed a tremendous variety of environments in which to develop my technical
and artistic skills.
From the Louisiana swamps to the South Dakota Badlands, I was constantly learning new ways to capture those fleeting moments
of light. Additionally, my job as a technician
provided daily opportunities to photograph various aviation subjects.
My interest in photography is
really an infatuation with light. It's amazing to witness the
way light changes the landscape through the day.
From sunrise to sunset; through twilight and through the night.
I never get tired of working the interaction between the land,
sky, and light. To me, Ansel Adams summed it up best when he
said "photography
is painting with light."
Ansel Adams,
Galen Rowell, and
Tony Sweet are the
photographers who continue to inspire and educate me.
Moose Peterson also
serves as a tremendous influence. I continue to read and study their books and
websites. It amazes me how
much material the Ansel Adams Trust continues to find and publish.
Robert Trawick is a local
photographer who is responsible for getting me to "stick my toe in the
water" by going public with my work. It isn't just me he has
inspired - Robert has done a lot for local artists by advocating
participation in our arts councils and by ensuring both artists and
regional artistic venues get connected. My greatest
personal influences are my wife Carol and my brother Mike.
Both have made me realize that I may be blessed with a craft that
can be shared with others.
This website is a work in progress. I ask that you bear with us
as we work to make it more informative and easier to use. We
welcome and appreciate your ideas and comments. This is a website
built by us with the intent of sharing my vision with you.
Thanks!
