This Cross is normally white, piped with light on the edges. This night, the storm knocked out the power making the Cross a perfect black silhouette. Seems it was meant to be... This is shot #35 of 40 that I took of this scene.
A severe thunderstorm catches the late afternoon light and reflects back onto a sunflower field. Many folks think I'm crazy for chasing storms. Scenes like this are why I'll be "crazy" for the remainder of my life...
I'm not terribly witty when it comes to image titles. This is the back end of a severe thunderstorm that caught the "golden hour" of light before sunset near Erick, Oklahoma.
This is another image where a storm, golden afternoon light, and a photographer all came together at the right time.
This is the first time I attempted a panorama centered around something moving - like lightning... I focused on the storm's core, shot the lightning, then immediately shot the left and right panels surrounding it.
Another shot from the Erick, Oklahoma storm. The light truly seemed it was from another world and seems to make the tree glow with color.
Radio towers in an antenna farm north of the Oklahoma City area are struck each time a storm passes over the field. This is what that event looks like...
The story behind capturing this panorama is too long to tell here... Suffice to say it's a miracle the image was captured successfuly and that the photographer survived the event...
Silly name for the image, but the anvil truly resembles a type of spacecraft. This storm was captured at sunset west of Yukon, Oklahoma.
An evening thunderstorm silhouettes the Oklahoma City skyline.
I used a very high f-stop to slow the shutter speed as much as possible so I could catch the lightning in conjunction with the sunset. It worked because the storm was very "hot" - meaning there were lots of cloud-to-ground strikes.
South Dakota has to be one of the most picturesque countrysides I've ever seen. The Black Hills are beautiful, but the Great Plains, its farms, and the storms that occur in the area create scenes that are truly breathtaking.
